Graveside

Shawnee resident, Louise DeAnn “Tomi” Thomas, 91, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017.

Tomi was born July 20, 1925, in Shawnee to Clinton E. and Celia E. (Lakin) Thompson.

In her younger years, she would skate at the local skating rink and enjoyed swimming at the municipal pool and the OBU pool. She attended Shawnee schools and was on the girls tumbling team in high school. She belonged to the Shawnee High School class of 1943.

Tomi worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell and retired after 25 years.

Tomi was an accomplished poet and oil painter. She had several poems published and won many awards for both her poetry and her art. She loved to dance, especially the Jitterbug, and also played the harmonica. She was a “handy-woman” who knew how to use a hammer and a screwdriver. There was no sense asking someone to do something for her that she could do herself. She also enjoyed numerous sports including OU and OSU football, the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs baseball teams, and the OKC Thunder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Thomas; long-time companions, Carl Chester Wright and Richard Hart; and sister, Carol Leming.

She is survived by her life-long friend, Jim Thomas and wife Janet; as well as numerous dear friends.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
