Several area schools will be receiving upgrades with funds from the county's education sales tax.

At Monday's Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners unanimously approved Maud schools to purchase a Micro Bird Type-A 29 passenger school bus.

Total cost of the bus is $53,998 and will be purchased from John Vance Auto Group.

Maud Schools was also approved to purchase and install carpet in three classrooms. Milford Bowlan Carpet will supply and install the carpet for a total cost of $3,283.33.

The bus and carpet project will be purchased with funds available to the Maud district from their portion of the county’s education sales tax.

Bethel Schools was approved to purchase various textbooks for kindergarten through sixth grade.

Total cost of the books is $75,276. The books will be purchased with funds available to the Bethel district from their portion of the county's sales tax.

In other commission news:

The commissioners approved the three bids for a 500-gallon skid unit fabrication for the Prague Fire Department. The bid will be awarded at next week's county commissioners meeting.
