Sear's Holdings confirmed the Shawnee Kmart will close Oct. 1.

Sears Holding's customer service reached out to Kmart on the News-Star's behalf and store managers refused to comment on how many employees currently work at the Shawnee location.

According to a company release on July 7, Sear Holding Company confirmed the Shawnee Kmart will be one of 35 stores to close.

“We have fought hard for many years to return unprofitable stores to a competitive position and to preserve jobs and, as a result, we had to absorb corresponding losses in the proves.” Sears Holding CEO Eddie Lampert said. “It is obvious that we don't make decisions to close stores lightly. Our efforts have been, and will continue to be, fact-based, thoughtful and disciplined, with the goal of making Sears Holdings more relevant and more competitive for our members and other constituents.”
