Wanda Earlene Gentry Elzey, 78, of Shawnee, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Shawnee.
Wanda “Earlene” Gentry Elzey, 78, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Shawnee.
She was born in Shawnee on Sept. 8, 1938, to Earl and Elwanda Thompson Gentry. She was raised in the Dale area and graduated from Dale High School.
She married LeeRoy Elzey from Dale, and they were married for 58 years.
Earlene and LeeRoy had four daughters: Diana Gulley and David of Broken Arrow, Peggy Stallings, Kathy Stanley, and Janet and Wes Munson of Shawnee; nine grandchildren: Christi Willeby, Jeff Courtney, Nicole Gulley, Travis Gulley, Sheena Martin, Quentin Heard, Melissa Whaley, Chrissie Boatman, and Todd Munson; and several great-grandchildren.
After marrying, LeeRoy went to college and was ordained as a Nazarene minister. Earlene loved being a minister’s wife. She led singing, played piano and taught Sunday School for the younger children. As a family, they were located in Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two daughters, Peggy and Kathy, grandparents on the Gentry side and Thompson side, and many other loved ones.
Survivors include brother: Larry D. Gentry of Shawnee; two daughters: Diana Lee Gulley and Janet Earlene Munson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several well-loved cousins.
Earlene was primarily a homemaker, but also kept children in her home. Her hobbies were riding horses while growing up with her cousins; she enjoyed drawing, painting with acrylics, and making and arranging silk flower arrangements. She loved to sing and had joined a couple of women’s choirs.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Dale Methodist Church in Dale. Officiating will be Pastor Russell Currie, first cousin of Earlene. Potluck dinner for family and close friends will follow at the church.
