On Tuesday Shelley Prewitt, a member of Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOVF), presented three area veterans with a Quilt of Valor for their service to their country.

Prewitt presented quilts to Bob Ford, Mordell Trammell and Roly Harjo at Veterans Memorial Park in Shawnee.

“I get choked up when I talk about WWII veterans,” Ford said. “It's because of them that I volunteered to serve.”

QOVF presents quilts to all military service members regardless of conflict, declared war or otherwise, in which they served.

QOVF was started by Catherine Roberts in her sewing room in 2003. Her son Nathaniel served in Iraq and Roberts wanted to provide returning troops with a welcome home gift.
