A Shawnee woman who was injured in a motorcyclist accident on July 26 has died.

Shelly Stewart, 43, suffered head and internal injuries in that crash, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. She died from her injuries Aug. 5, according to obituary information.

The accident occurred west of Shawnee about 3:14 a.m. July 26 on the I-40 eastbound on ramp from U.S. 177 northbound.

A 2008 Yamaha motorcycle driven by Charles Lawrence, 35, of Shawnee, was traveling eastbound on the I-40 on ramp when he lost control, the OHP reported, causing the cycle to overturn one-fourth time onto its left side. He and Stewart, his passenger, were ejected from the motorcycle, the OHP reported.

Both were transported to unspecified hospitals. Lawrence was reportedly admitted in fair condition with head, internal and external trunk injuries, while Stewart was admitted in critical condition with head and internal trunk injuries.

Cause of the collision was listed as too fast to negotiate a curve in the roadway, the patrol said.

Helmets were not in use, the OHP said.

Services for Stewart will be held Saturday, Aug. 12 at Faith Christian Outreach in Shawnee.
