DALE – The Dale Lady Pirates opened up their season with a 9-1 over the Jones Lady Longhorns Tuesday evening.

“We started off the season with a win against a pretty decent team,” coach Andy Powell said. “It's always nice to get a win heading into the tournament Thursday.”

Jones jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Lady Pirates responded with a two-run bottom half of the first inning.

London Calvillo led off with a triple, Emmy Idelman was hit by a pitch and a few batters later Montana Lam hit a single, scoring Calvillo and Idelman giving the Lady Pirates a 2-1 lead.

“We came through with some timely hits,” Powell said. “Any time you can string together some hits you have a good chance at winning the ball game. It took a while but I'm happy with the win.”
