The Shawnee Police Department and Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office are applying for a $20,979 grant.

Last year, the agencies received a grant for $21,531. With those funds, the sheriff's office purchased 35 body cameras for deputies and Shawnee police purchased five night vision goggles.

In past years, SPD has used this funding towards the purchasing of Tasers, crime scene equipment, recovery equipment for lake patrol, used vehicles, flashlights, entry tools and more.

The Edward Byrnes Memorial Grant is an equipment grant with amounts set by the Department of Justice. It is the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to apply.
