A bridge project to rehabilitate the SH-18B bridge over Quapaw Creek about 3 miles east of SH-18, near Sparks, has encountered some issues that are delaying completion for another month.
The project, which began in June, was expected to take about two months for the existing bridge deck to be replaced with lanes and shoulders.
Cody Boyd, with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, said the project is expected to take another month.
“The project encountered some issues that required the design to be modified and extra materials to be ordered to ensure the new bridge and the roadway meet at the correct elevation,” he said.
With the bridge closed, detours are in place on 3460 Road, 990 Road and 3470 Road in partnership with Lincoln County.
About 550 vehicles travel this highway each day on average.
The more than $1 million contract was awarded to BridgeCo Contractors, Inc. of Wellston in December 2016.
