Storms and heavy rain moved through Shawnee Tuesday evening, causing some brief bouts of flash flooding on area roadways and leaving more than 2,400 customers without power for most of the evening.
OG&E's System's Watch reported 2,396 customers without power in Shawnee about 8:30 p.m. and that number grew to 2,400 by 9 p.m. About 81 customers were impacted in Bethel Acres and about 184 were affected in Sasakwa, according to OG&E System Watch.
OG&E, via twitter, reported lightning and flooding were the cause of many outages, which stretched from Oklahoma City to the Shawnee area and points east.
About 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Shawnee outages had gone down as power was being restored, with a reported 321 still without power at that time. About midnight, that number had gone up to 475.
A brief water rescue was reported on South Kickapoo Tuesday evening and a car stalled out in deep water in the Bell Street tunnel near Shawnee Milling Company.
One Shawnee resident also reported a tree was struck by lightning on Apache Street.
