Shawnee city sales tax collections are up for August, compared to the same month a year ago.

Cindy Arnold, finance director and city treasurer, reports the August sales tax check received this month was $1,559,594, up $29,348 or 1.26 percent higher than August 2016, which was $1,530,246.

“We have had a great start this year and we have made budget, but we all know that sales tax can be up one month and down the next,” Arnold said. “We need to remember to Shop Shawnee as much as possible to keep the sales tax steady.”

The Use Tax deposit in August was $205,512, up $80,604 from last year, she said.

County

Pottawatomie County's sales tax collections for August showed an increase in revenue over August 2016. Treasurer Wendy Magnus reported this month's collections totaled $697,458.10, up from the same month a year ago when $664,066.22 was received –– an increase of $33,391.88.

This year's figures are the highest collected for the month of August in the last 10 years. Compared to July 2017 — when $693,886.28 was received — this month beat last month's collections by $3,571.82.
