Elma, known lovingly as “Mema” by her family, graduated from Shawnee High School in 1950. She worked at the Chevrolet Dealership and the Sylvania Manufacturing Company in Shawnee until she married James Edward Hargus on April 21, 1951. She also volunteered at a daycare center, knitted hundreds of caps for newborn babies at the hospital, and worked at the gift shop. Elma loved to do crossword puzzles and play cards with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ollie; brothers, Frank Dunsmore Jr., Jack Dunsmore and Paul Dunsmore; sisters, Katherine Greblo, Thelma Dunsmore, and Ella Harrison; and granddaughter, Alysha Hargus.
