DALE – There was an unexpected pitcher's duel at Dale Tuesday night as Dalanie Manning and Depew's Jordan Grant squared off from the circle. The Lady Pirates won out the game 1-0 on a passed ball in the sixth.

Mo Lam singled to lead off the bottom of the sixth to bring in Jalynn Haley as a courtesy runner. Haley moved to third with two outs and came home on a passed ball to score the only run of the game.

In a rare occurrence, Manning was hitless at the plate with two strikeouts. She was her always reliable self on the rubber though.

She gave up one hit and struck out 12, including fanning the side in the seventh.

Skyler Thompson went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple for Dale and Mikayla Rutland was 1-3 with a double.

The game was a change from the pace that Dale has set lately against some of the top teams.

“We've been swinging the bats pretty good and against some good teams... She was throwing in out, up and changing speeds. Whenever you can do that and get them all over the plate, you're not going to score very many runs,” he said.

A win is a win though, and Powell will take it.

“Winning 1-0 is better than losing 1-0,” he said.

The Lady Pirates are on the road Thursday at Tecumseh at 6:30.
