On Monday, in a special meeting of the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners, commissioners approved the 2017-2018 county budget totaling just over $5.6 million.

On Monday, in a special meeting of the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners, commissioners approved the 2017-2018 county budget totaling just over $5.6 million.

The total budget for Pottawatomie County is $5,636,012.82.

Each department is allocated the following:

Audit - $73,100

Free Fair - $5,000

District Attorney - $67,570

County Sheriff - $1,230,914

County Treasurer - $206,916

County Clerk - $383,075

Court Clerk - $473,804

County Assessor - $382,604

Visual Inspection - $435,219

Juvenile Detention - $45,000

General Government - $2,079,070

County Excise Board - $5,000

County Election - $193,740

Treasurer School - $25,000

Community Service - $30,000

The funds for each county office were what each asked for in their estimate of needs. The Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center did request $249,000 in its estimate of needs, but the jail received zero funds from the county's annual budget. Commissioner Randy Thomas said the jail had surplus funding from its own revenue stream, which includes the jail's portion of the county's one-cent sales tax.

The total available funds for 2017-18 included a $1,281,235.26 carryover from the previous budget. The county funds also included $3,500,271.86 from ad valorem taxes and $854,505.70 from miscellaneous fees.

At the regularly scheduled commissioners meeting on Monday:

• The commissioners awarded the Westech Road bridge project to The Railroad Yard for materials only. Their bid came in at $45,834.55. River Ridge Construction was awarded the labor portion of the project with a bid of $111,894.13.

• The town of Pink donated $25,000 to District 2 for parking lot around fire station in Pink.

• The commissioners approved the use of a driving simulator for county employees. The simulator is from Autry Tech and will be paid for by the Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma (ACCO).
