The Shawnee School District recently established a position to handle all public relations and now has hired Brittany Watts to fill that role.

Born and raised in Bentonville, Arkansas, Watts moved to Shawnee in 2014 to attend OBU.

“I am very excited to be taking over this position and changing the way that the district is viewed,” she said. Watts said her role as the PR and Communications Coordinator basically encompasses all media that the school district does, including social media, print and the district's various websites.

“While in school I worked with several small businesses around town and the OKC area as a marketing consultant, working on their websites and creating social media strategies,” Watts said. “I have designed several company sites and run various social media campaigns.”

She said she hopes to generate excitement in students about school and make it a more personalized and comfortable environment for the children.

“My goal is to bring the school district out of the ways it has been set in for the last 20 years and create a more modern feel to everything we do,” she said.

In May Watts graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing.

She said she lives in Oklahoma City with her pride and joy — her little mini-poodle, Dixie.
