Vivian (Cassell) Smith, 91, of Shawnee, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in Shawnee.

Vivian (Cassell) Smith, 91, of Shawnee, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in Shawnee.

She was born Nov. 30, 1925, to John M. and Florence Ethel (Loudermilk) Cassell in Kansas.

Vivian was raised in Arkansas and lived most of her life in California, living 20 years in Carson, California, before moving to Shawnee in 1990 where she has since resided.

She married Hyram A. Smith on Dec. 3, 1965, in Wilmington, California, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1994.

Vivian spent her life as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and many other activities. Vivian loved life and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four husbands; one brother; one sister; and four stepchildren.

Vivian is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, June and Harold Hines of Elkhart, Indiana, Anna and James Haggard of Shawnee, Dinah and Bill Loudermilk of Shawnee, and Ellen and Kelly of Shawnee; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mike and Debbie Whitehead of Shawnee, Verlin and Sylvia Whitehead of Ada, and Hyrum Smith III of Monroe, Michigan; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Loudermilk and Wayne Loudermilk; two sisters, Mildred Haggard and Rose Longfield; and other loving extended family and friends.

As per Vivian’s wishes, the family has designated St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 as appropriate for memorials.

Visitation will start 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 14, with the family gathering to meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 15, at Tecumseh Cemetery with Bishop Bryan Hanes of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Shawnee, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
