An investigation into a suspicious death is ongoing at Interstate 40 and U.S. 177 this afternoon, just east of the construction area.

Construction crews reportedly noticed the white Ford Taurus down an embankment from the highway and called the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

While it's unclear how the vehicle came to be in that location, it doesn't appear to be from an accident on I-40 and Pottawatomie County Sheriff Mike Booth said they're still not sure how the vehicle got there.

Booth has confirmed there is a body face down outside the vehicle. The arrival of a medical examiner has been awaited to process the scene to see if there are any signs of trauma, the sheriff said.

Booth, who said the rain has impacted the scene, said authorities also have obtained a search warrant to process any possible evidence inside the vehicle.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney's Task Force also are working this case, Booth said.

Investigators are visiting with the owner of the vehicle, Booth said, and are working to identify the person found deceased at the scene.

Law enforcement was first called to the area about 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Watch for updates at the investigation continues.
