Sonja Joy (Searcy) Voss was born in Shawnee on June 26, 1953, to Herman and Carol Searcy. She departed this life on Sept. 16, 2017, in Tulsa at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 21 days.

Sonja Joy (Searcy) Voss was born in Shawnee on June 26, 1953, to Herman and Carol Searcy. She departed this life on Sept. 16, 2017, in Tulsa at the age of 64 years, 2 months and 21 days.

Sonja attended schools in Stroud, Wister and Prague, where she played in the band and was voted senior band queen. She graduated in 1970. Sonja attended college in Waxahachie, Texas, where she studied music.

She served as church pianist in the Prague Assembly of God Church where her parents pastored. Sonja was also actively involved with the Children’s Church Ministry.

She and John Voss were united in marriage on May 15, 1998, in the state of Texas.

Sonja worked for the Child Guidance Center at the State Health Department in Oklahoma City before transferring to Sallisaw, Oklahoma, where she retired due to health issues.

She loved her family; she lived vicariously through her children. Sonja was an avid pet lover and adopted most any pet in need. She loved the water, where she visited often. She visited Ocean City, Maryland, as frequently as possible.

Sonja is greatly loved. Her giggles and gracious, gentle nature will be immensely missed.

Her mother, Carol Juanita Searcy, preceded her in death on Aug. 17, 2016.

Sonja is survived by her husband, John Voss of the home; one son, Shad Aaron West of McLoud; one daughter, Brittany Dawn Horton of Edmond; one sister, Toni Yolanda Bowen and her husband Vance, of Edmond; her father, Herman Searcy of McLoud; one step daughter, Kara Voss of Edmond; one step son, Joey Voss of Texas; nephew, Michael Bowen; niece, Jessica Deason; and many cousins and friends.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at McLoud First Assembly of God Church, McLoud, with Reverend Danny Webb officiating.
