MCLOUD – In a battle of 2-2 teams, the Prague Red Devils came out victorious on the road with a 40-14 win over McLoud Friday night.
“I was proud of the guys tonight,” Prague coach John Graham said. “We had a lot of guys step up with our starting running back, Calvin Boyce, out. Our offensive line played really well. There are some things we have to fix. We weren't perfect but we made plays when we needed to have it.”
Prague struck first on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Elway Farriell to Jake Schultz.
McLoud's defense stood tall early and Logan Wheat recovered a fumble which led to the Redskins' first touchdown.
On the Redskins' only touchdown drive of the first half, Braxton Hall hooked up with Mason Nikel on a 24-yard touchdown pass. On the two point conversion, Damien Dye hit Zac Green to give McLoud the momentarily lead, 8-7.
Prague answered right back on a 60-yard bomb from Farriell to Branom Bailey. Tyler Carpenter hit his second extra point of the game and gave the Red Devils a 14-8 lead.
In Prague's only scoring drive of the second half, Farriell found Austin Lee on a short touchdown.
At halftime, Prague led 21-8.
The Red Devils' first drive of the second half resulted in a three and out after Jaden Mitchell sacked Farriell. McLoud's ensuing drive resulted in a three and out.
Prague would tack on another touchdown when Farriell connected with Trent Palmer on a one-yard touchdown throw. The next series out, Farriell hooked up with Schultz on a 91-yard pass.
Towards the end of the third quarter, McLoud's Braxton Hall rolled out and threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown by Prague's Palmer.
McLoud would add a touchdown with seconds remaining on a 26-yard touchdown run. The extra point was no good and McLoud trailed 40-14 with less than a minute to go.
Prague was led by Farriell who was 13 of 16 for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He also added one touchdown on the ground and chipped in 24 yards rushing.
Schultz led the Red Devils in receiving with 164 yards and two touchdowns.
McLoud's Braxton Hall completed eight of 29 for 94 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions.
Damien Dye led the way for the Redskins with 73 yards and a touchdown.
Nikkel recorded two receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown, Coye Campbell added two 43 yards and Tyler Jones hauled in two passes for 36 yards.
