Wilford Gene Hopper, 89-year-old Tecumseh resident, passed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee.

Wilford Gene Hopper, 89-year-old Tecumseh resident, passed from this life Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee.

He was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Sapulpa to Juanita Catherine (Slaybaugh) Hopper and Farris Deward Hopper.

Wilford served in the United States Army. He later worked as a self-employed construction and pipeliner until his retirement in 1989.

On Sept. 7, 1956, he married Alma Ruth Knowles in Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alma Ruth (Knowles) Hopper; four sons, Phillip Hopper and his wife Jennifer of Maud, John Hopper and his wife Shirley of Pink, Guy Hopper and his wife Joyce of Pink, Lidge Hopper and his wife Jayne of Ada; two daughters, Ruth (Hopper) Arms and her husband Alvin of Pink, Mable Hopper of Pink; four brothers, John Hopper of Maud, Charles Hopper of Maud, Joe Hopper and his wife Julie of Pleasant Grove, Clarence Hopper and his wife Mary of Maud; one sister, Juanita (Hopper) Phillips and her husband Ted of Maud; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Wilford is preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Farris Hopper, by one sister, Ora Alice Glover; by one brother, Raymond Hopper; by one great granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Igleheart; and by one great-great-granddaughter, Kyligh Rumbaugh.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating the service assisted by Rev. Butch Bradley.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.
