Cleveland Petroleum Products has announced it has acquired Propane Services, a propane transportation and service company located at 5625 N. Harrison in Shawnee.

“The purchase will better serve the needs of Propane Services customers in the Shawnee and surrounding area,” said Cleveland Petroleum CEO Steve Southward. “The purchase of the Shawnee facility fits into Cleveland Petroleum’s strategy to manage solid companies that represent safe and reliable resources for  the propane industry.”

Established in 1975, Cleveland Petroleum Products has become the biggest independently owed propane, gasoline and diesel operations in Oklahoma, he said, with 19 other locations around the state.

And being in Shawnee is like home for Southward.

“I went to St. Gregory's University so I have some of my heart in Shawnee,” he said, adding the company is excited to have an operation in this area.

By purchasing the company, he said, Cleveland Petroleum will bring additional revenue and jobs  to Shawnee by selling oils, lubricants, gasoline and diesel.

Southward said the company also has the UPS contract for servicing propane-powered vehicles in the UPS fleet, including the UPS hub in Shawnee.

Southward said this investment  also represents a strategic opportunity to offer UPS with continued infrastructure for their propane-powered vehicles. Cleveland Petroleum has serviced all the 15 UPS facilities throughout the state.

“The acquisition also adds to our capacity and geographic presence to service  oilfield  customers,” he said.

And while Propane Services will be part of Cleveland Petroleum Products, Southward said they do plan to keep the name as Propane Services.
