Leon G. Self, 94-year-old Shawnee resident, passed on Sept. 19, 2017.

Leon was born on Dec. 4, 1922, in Waldron, Arkansas.

He was a graduate of Westville High School and Oklahoma A&M.

His profession was the University of Missouri County Extension Agent, and he later became an Ag. Chem. Sales.

He also joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in WWII and defended Midway Island.

Leon operated a small cattle business in Seminole County.

Leon married Mary Lou Hale on June 1, 1947, in Miami, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by parents; Oliver and Hattie Self, of Westville, one son; Kelly L. Self, one brother; Tommy Self, and one half brother; Lloyd J. Tippett.

He is survived by Mary Lou Self, of the home in Shawnee, one son; Patrick Self and daughter-in-law, Herlinda of Wewoka, two sisters; Treva Robertson of Hockley, Texas, and Gertrude Martin of Mt. Vernon, Illinois.

Leon’s funeral service will be Thursday, Oct. 12, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul United Methodist Church where Rev. Tiffany Nagel Monroe will officiate.

Internment will follow at 2 p.m. at the ranch.
