Artist Jessica Bellamy teaches a Mixed Media Workshop at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art.

The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is offering a Plaster Painting a mixed-media workshop with artist Jessica Bellamy on October 21, 10 am – 4 pm.  Participants in this workshop will explore modern expressive possibilities of creating art with paint, plaster, wax, and more.  This fine art workshop is open to adults and students ages 16 and older.  Registration is required.

As an undergraduate, Jessica studied painting, drawing, and sculpture at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, where she earned a Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in painting in 2004.  She then went on to attend the Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, where she received a Master's of Fine Arts with a concentration in drawing and painting in 2010.

From 2010 - 2014, Jessica worked as an adjunct professor at Texas Woman's University, teaching a variety of studio art courses such as basic drawing, drawing II, figure drawing, painting and graduate painting. Now in Norman, Oklahoma, she currently offers private lessons, teaching a wide range of processes and media.  Her teaching method encourages students to develop both technical abilities and creative expressions.

Jessica admitted she "loves the energy of engaging and collaborating with her students."

Jessica has had solo exhibits in Texas and Oklahoma, and she has participated in group and juried exhibitions throughout the U.S. In 2015 her work was selected to be included in the permanent collection of The Encaustic Art Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

“"Jessica's method of mixed-media painting lends itself to creating dynamic works with deep texture, embedded objects, photo transfers, wax effects, and more, " explains curator of education Donna Merkt.

Merkt has taken this workshop with Bellamy and describes it as being "exceptionally creative" and fun.  She also noted that participants don't have to have any art experience to enjoy this workshop, but that seasoned artists would also appreciate learning the new and innovative techniques.
