The Office of Chief Medical Examiner on Monday released the cause and manner of death of a 10-year-old boy who died Oct. 21.
Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said a 13-year-old boy was arrested in the case after he allegedly shot a broadhead arrow from a crossbow, killing 10-year-old Austin Almanza and injuring Austin's younger brother.
The state medical examiner has determined cause of death for Austin was “crossbow bolt wound to the abdomen, perforating,” with manner of death ruled a homicide.
Dougherty said Austin died after the arrow traveled completely through his body and then hit his younger brother, Ayden, in the arm. The incident occurred in the Wellston area.
The teen suspect was taken to a juvenile detention center after his arrest, but no other information has been available since the suspect is a juvenile.
