Billy R. “Bill” Langston, 87, of Asher, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at his home.

Billy R. “Bill” Langston, 87, of Asher, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at his home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1930, to Kenneth and Bena Mae (Stanford) Langston in Ray City.

Bill was raised in Ray City and attended Mountain View Schools in Seminole County. He has resided in the Asher area for most of his life.

After high school Bill joined the U.S. Army on Oct. 9, 1950, and proudly served his country during the Vietnam and Korean Wars until his honorable discharge in April 1971.

He married Mary J. Kirkpatrick on March 10, 1978, in Shawnee.

Upon returning from the military in 1971 he owned and operated Langston Brothers Gulf Station until 1980. He was the rural mail carrier in the Wanette area from 1980 to 1989 until his retirement.

Bill was a lifetime member of the DAV, American Legion, TREA and a 32 degree Mason, Ancient and Accepted, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Bena Mae Langston; son-in-law, Bruce Alan Holt; sister, Margaret LaDawn Gurley; and grandchild, Jackie Marie Skelly.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Mary Langston of the home; three daughters, Jennifer Holt of Asher, Deanna and Jim Johnson, of Lebanon, Missouri, and Melinda Pennington of Asher; son, Darren Pitts of Tecumseh; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jim and Sandy Langston of Asher, and Richard and Sandy Langston of Pensacola, Florida; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 31, and continue through service time.

Service will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
