If you were to ask me why exercise, my response would definitely be because the health of you and your loved ones is so very important. As a Personal trainer I take great pride in challenging you to treat and respect your health as the very serious business that it is. I’ve said this many times before, and will say it again, that when you allow your health to decline, so to does your active quality of life. No matter what your current fitness status is, in my opinion there is absolutely no good reason not to be taking care of yourself physically, mentally, and nutritionally every single day.
That doesn’t mean you have to be perfect, it just means that you should have strategic guidelines in place that will help keep your mind, body, range of motion, and strength improving for the rest of your life. In fitness terms, that translates into consistent regular exercise, good eating habits, plenty of rest, water, and proper vitamin supplementation.
Consistency in all of the above mentioned areas is definitely the key. Too many times we stumble by not following through with our best intentions. We intend to get our workout in today, or eat a nutritious meal, or start our fitness program, but don’t. I challenge you to see that these intentions alone are simply not enough! We have now got to follow through with actions, and do it consistently. Please believe me when I say that 100% of the people who have taken positive and consistent action on their health, are so very happy they did. It never fails! Their smiles are bigger, their eyes are wider, they look better, feel great, have more confidence and energy, and there is nothing more rewarding than to see someone go through this metamorphosis. Please believe me again when I say it is happening every single day, and you can absolutely be the next 30 pound success story if you put your heart and mind into it.
Participating consistently in your own health improvement program comes with many health benefits. Improvement and change happens when you do things often. Stopping and starting all the time will halt any of the momentum you need to succeed. I challenge you to let nothing deter your fitness momentum from building. It is very easy to create reasons not to exercise. Travel, overworking, too busy, tired, stressed, or lack of sleep are just a few classics. Don’t get me wrong I definitely understand these situations do happen and are a realistic part of life, but I also disagree with the fact that they keep you from taking care of yourself. You can do both. The difference in people who are successful, consistent, and motivated with fitness from those who let these reasons affect their programs, is that they have found a way to progressively incorporate healthy habits into their lifestyles anyway, despite the circumstances.
Here are a few insights that may help you stay motivated. Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a workout once in a while. It doesn’t mean your program has stopped, or that you have to start all over. Life happens and priorities shift, that’s absolutely ok. Just start where you left off. Of course you must recognize the difference between a missed workout or two and a missed week or two. There is a big difference! You lose absolutely nothing when you miss a workout once in a while, and your body may even benefit from the rest.
Do not be hard on yourself if you don’t see results in the first 45 days. Everyone has different starting points and there are many variables like age, body weight, and family history that may affect the rate of results. My challenge for you here is just to be patient. With consistency your body will adapt, and you will be amazed like so many at how great you look and feel with time.
Finally, on those days you don’t feel so excited about exercising, except when sick, I challenge you to push through. Remember consistency is the key. We are creatures of habit and must continue to establish a pattern. Even completing a less than normal workout still means we are consistent, and that my friends, is the key to our health, weight loss, and fitness success! You can do this!
