The Salvation Army will host a free community lunch Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“The Salvation Army is pleased to be celebrating this Thanksgiving holiday along with local volunteers making sure everyone has a good thankful meal,” Captain Jamie Clay said.
During the meal, the Salvation Army will be giving out coats to those in need.
There will also be games and crafts for the children.
In addition to preparing meals for the community, the Salvation Army will prepare and deliver meals to local Shawnee senior shut-ins and the Shawnee jail employees and prisoners.
Last year, the Salvation Army provided over 800 meals and this year they are preparing over 900 meals as the need continues to grow.
Those wanting to volunteer can show up as early as 9 a.m.
