Softball teams from this area always seem to have success in the state tournament. Next year, they won’t have to travel as far to play for a championship.

For years, the state tournament for both fast pitch in the fall and slow pitch softball in the spring have been held at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

But this week, The Firelake Ballfields announced they have been awarded the opportunity to host the state championships beginning in the fall of 2018.

According to a Facebook post on the Ballfields at Firelake page, “Fire- Lake Ballfield is excited to announce that we will be hosting the High School State Tournaments. Beginning the fall of 2018 Fastpitch and Slow pitch in the spring of 2019.”

The Firelake Ballfields were home to St. Gregory’s University’s team and even hosted the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in 2016.

The Ballfields are host to premier softball tournaments to begin every season and they also hosted the Shawnee 5A Regional this past season.

This will be the first time the Ballfields have hosted the State Tournaments. The Firelake Arena has hosted the State Dual Wrestling Tournament the past couple of years as well.
