James “Jim” Miller O'Connor “Conn” Gallagher, longtime resident of Shawnee, passed away Nov. 14, 2017.

He was born to Frances and Joseph Gallagher and was the first baby born n Jan. 1, 1936, in Moorhead, Minnesota, and sister river city Fargo, North Dakota.

He graduated from Verdale High School in 1954. Upon graduation, he went on active duty in the Army in January 1955. He re-enlisted and spent two and a half years in Germany, where he reached the rank of SFC E6.

After his discharge, he went to Colorado Springs and worked as a backhoe operator and construction carpenter. In 1970, he moved his family to Wichita, Kansas, where he sold farm equipment for 15 years. He then went to work for the oil refinery in McPherson, Kansas. He moved to Oklahoma in 1988 to buy oil for the refinery. He retired from the refinery in 1995 and went on to sell used cars and then, later, auto parts at O'Reillys. His final retirement from the work force was in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife: Holly Gallagher of Shawnee; son: Chris Gallagher and daughter, Jill Gallagher, both of Wichita; stepdaughter: Amber Mascho and husband, Clint, of Stillwater; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister and brother-in-law: Pat and Jim Lepper of Glenwood, Minnesota; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

All who knew Jim are invited to attend a celebration of his life that will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., Dec. 2, at the Shawnee VFW.
