"This was a good win for us,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said. "Okarche showed us some things that we need to work on but it was a good win against a quality opponent.”

DALE - The Class 2A second-ranked Dale Lady Pirates topped Okarche 42-32 Tuesday night.

"This was a good win for us,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said. "Okarche showed us some things that we need to work on but it was a good win against a quality opponent.”

The Lady Pirates scored first on a Lindy Nowakowski layup. She also added a free throw on the andone to give Dale the early 3-0 lead.

Dale closed out the first quarter on a 7-0 run to extend its lead to 15-8.

The Lady Pirates added eight more points in the second quarter.

Dale took a 23-11 lead into halftime. The lead was not enough as Forsythe challenged his squad to come out with the same intensity they ended the first half.

"I thought we played a good game defensively in the first half," Forsythe said. "We wanted to continue with that but they hit some big shots late in the game.”

Okarche scored first to start the second half, but back-to-back baskets by Rutland extended the Lady Pirates' lead to 28-14.

Dale and Okarche traded baskets in the third quarter and the Lady Pirates went into the fourth with a comfortable 32-19 lead.

Okarche would cut the lead to single digits in the fourth quarter on six straight points by Bailey Baustert but an and-one by Claire Chastain put Dale up 39-32. The next trip up the floor, Chastain added another free throw to put things out of reach.

"They were giving us problems with their defensive scheme," Forsythe said. "I don't think we handled the pressure very well at the end."

Rylee Thompon led Dale with seven points. She also added three rebounds and a block. Chastain filled the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, three steals and three blocks.

Okarche's Baustert led all scorers with 15 points.

Dale improved their record to 4-0, while Okarche fell to 2-2 on the season.
