A defendant charged in a 2017 homicide at Chapel Ridge apartments has waived his right to a speedy trial for the next two jury terms and is now scheduled for court again in May 2018.

Antonio Maurice Sambrano, 19, is charged in Pottawatomie County District Court; he remains jailed in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center.

He is charged with first-degree murder, deliberate intent, in connection with a January 2017 shooting death of Isaiah Anthony Harjo, 27. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded Harjo died of a gunshot wound to the chest, with manner of death listed as a homicide.

The shooting occurred Jan. 4, 2017 at Chapel Ridge Apartments, 130 E. 45th Street. In the moments after the shooting, several nearby locations, including Shawnee Middle School, Gordon Cooper Technology Center and even a local daycare center, were put on lockdown.
