Marvin Dean Warren Sr. was born on Aug. 13, 1946, in Shawnee to Myrtle and Joseph Warren. He passed from this life on Dec. 26, 2017.

Marvin attended Shawnee Public Schools before enlisting in the United States Navy in August of 1963. During his time in the U.S. Navy, he was stationed in Hawaii and served one tour in Vietnam, earning several awards and ribbons including his Vietnam Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in August 1967. After getting out of the service, Marvin and his first wife, Yuvone Eoff, had his only child, son Marvin Warren Jr., whom he loved with all of his heart and soul.

Marvin worked as a maintenance supervisor for Mission Hill Hospital in Shawnee, then at Bass Memorial Hospital in Enid. He finished his career at the Oklahoma City Zoo as the supervisor of building and maintenance, where he eventually retired from in 2008.

After a 13-year courtship, Marvin married Elizabeth (Libby) Ann Oliver on Feb. 4, 2000. Marvin gained three daughters, Stephanie, Starla and Sharon, and a grandson, Steffan. Later that same year, he gained a daughter-in-law, Donna, and grandson, Eric, when his son married his soul mate.

Marvin and Libby loved traveling, camping, fishing and attending church together. He loved his children and especially loved time spent with his grandsons Eric, Steffan, and Noah. Marvin prided himself on being a stubborn, ornery ol' buzzard with a dry sense of humor, all of which was far surpassed by the love he showered upon his family and friends.

Marvin loved making knives and restoring guns, as well as attending every gun show he could find. He spent countless hours restoring his prized car, a 1955 BelAir Coupe.

He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and the R.O.M.E.O. (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Club that met weekly. He belonged to the Tecumseh Shooting Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Oklahoma Rifle Association.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Libby, and faithful dog, Alice, his loving son, Marvin Jr. and wife, Donna, three step-daughters and their husbands, Stephanie and Bryce Ackerman, Starla and Dennis Thomas, and Sharon and Glen Whetstine, two grandsons, Steffan Oliver and Noah Thomas, siblings, Cecil Wright, Daisy Green and husband Frank, Alfred Wright and wife, Robbie, and Fred Wright, along with a host of nieces and nephews and other extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and Joseph Warren, his brother, John Wright, sister-in-law, Linda Wright and his beloved grandson, Eric Warren, who was KIA in 2012, of whom he was very proud.

A memorial will be held on 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Sharon Baptist Church, 19002 S. Gordon Cooper Drive in Shawnee, officiated by Clint Dawkins. Per Marvin's request, there will be no public viewing.
