Maxine Jessie Vliet, 83, of Tecumseh, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at her home.

Maxine Jessie Vliet, 83, of Tecumseh, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at her home.

She was born May 26, 1934, to Clifford and Iola Mae (Moe) Boucha in a log cabin in Naubinway, Michigan.

Maxine married Clarence Edward Vliet on Feb. 24, 1951, in Garden City, Michigan, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2002.

She lived in many different places. Her favorite place to live was in the mountains of Virginia. She recently moved to Tecumseh to be close to her family.

Maxine worked several jobs, but her most important job was being a mother. Maxine always took care of her family and was known by many names, Mom, Gram and Nana.

She loved going to the river and the mountains, enjoyed yard sales, gardening, crafts, sewing, baking, parties, shopping on the jewelry channel and shoes. Maxine loved family gatherings for the holidays and enjoyed decorating for them. She especially loved Christmas and had several Christmas trees throughout her house.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Vliet; parents Clifford and Iola Boucha; brother, Howard Boucha; and sisters, Gertrude Thrasher and Shirley Cooper; grandson, Tre Arnold; granddaughter, Meagen Arnold; daughter-in-law, Terri Vliet; and son-in-law, Robert Fletcher.

Maxine is survived by her three sons and three daughters-in-law, Jack and Dawn Vliet of Mechanicsville, Maryland, David and Sandy Vliet of Lake City, Michigan, and Ronald and Kay Vliet of Greenville, Michigan; three daughters and one son-in-law, Cynthia Fletcher of Freeport, Florida, Linda Vliet of Shawnee, and Bonnie and Michael Arnold of Tecumseh; numerous grandchildren including, Brandy, Dusty, Emily, Jaimie, Armando, Ty, Tyler, Brianna, Michael, Julie, Roberta, Jason, Steven, Vincent, Ronnie, Mark, Tina, Jennifer, Rachel, Erin, Tyler, Morgan, Hunter, Alicia, Ryan, Jessica, Artie, Sara and Amanda; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, Elizabeth; sister, Karen Byroads and husband Donald; and numerous other extended family and friends.

Memorial service will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Wayne Heins, Gracepoint Church in McLoud, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
