Jim Stanford, 85, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, at Plainview First Assembly Church with pastor Nelson Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Jim was born on May 11, 1932, in McLoud to Leland and Jewel (Shields) Stanford. He grew up in McLoud and attended grade school at Hazel-Dell and then Dale High School graduating in 1949. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with his bachelor's and master's degree. He moved to Plainview in 1958 where he and his brothers, Ed and Bob, and longtime family friend Ed Vadder started an entomology service that later turned into Sun-Vue Fertilizer, which they owned together for approximately 37 years. He also had his real estate license. He continued serving the area as an entomologist for many years before retiring last year.

He married Bonnie Moffett on Feb. 3, 1961, in Plainview. She preceded him in death in 1995. He then married Betty Knick Phillips on Nov. 30, 1996, in Weatherford, Texas.

He is also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Stanford.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Stanford of Plainview; two daughters, Sandra Hughes and her husband Randy of Plainview, Texas, Sindy Turner and her husband Craig of Ft. Collins, Colorado; one son, James “Chip” Stanford II and his wife Beverly of Edmonson, Texas; one step-son, Shawn Phillips and his wife Eden of Midland, Texas; three brothers, Ed Stanford and his wife Sue of Lubbock, Texas, Tom Stanford and his wife Tina of Kingwood, Texas, Curtis Stanford and his wife Tricia of McLoud; a sister-in-law Mary Jane Stanford of Flagstaff, Arizona. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Amanda Hughes King, Kassie Hughes Lane, Riley Stanford, Samantha Stanford, Jenna Coley, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
