Melba I. (Fry) Bowlan, 90, of Shawnee, died on Jan. 6, 2018, in Shawnee.

She was born east of Asher to Everett and Ina (Greenlee) Fry on July 8, 1927. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1945. She married Milford E. Bowlan on Jan. 16, 1948, at her mother's house in Shawnee.

In Melba’s early years she lived in Oklahoma and Texas before moving to Shawnee in 1958. She and her husband started the business in 1965 that is now Milford E. Bowlan Carpets, Inc. Melba was also a homemaker and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian and lived her life as such.

Melba is preceded in death by her husband, Milford E. Bowlan, who passed away in 2005, sisters Effie Faught and Bonnie Hathcock, and brothers Roy and Billie Ray Fry.

Mrs. Bowlan is survived by sons Stanley Bowlan, Kent and Deborah Bowlan, Brent and Susan Bowlan, daughters Vickie Bowlan and Melissa Baker all of Shawnee, grandchildren Donny and wife Alisha Armitage of Shawnee, Daniel Armitage of Denver, Colorado, Deanna Armitage of Shawnee, Garrett Baker of Los Angeles, Amber Stryker and husband Cole of Los Angeles, Brian and wife Stephanie Bowlan of Shawnee, Olivia and husband Ryan Swyden of Edmond, Matthew and wife Lauren Bowlan of Edmond, Casey Bowlan of Edmond, Nicholas Bowlan of Shawnee, Reid Bowlan of Shawnee, 11 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Kenneth Bowlan of Shawnee, a number of other relatives, and special friend and caretaker, Vicki Watson of Shawnee.

Visitation is 1 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Funeral service is 10 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Vista Cemetery, Box 102, Konawa, OK 74849, the resting place for much of her family.
