Buddy and Margaret Allen of Shawnee will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children and grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to the come-and-go reception Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where they have been members since 1968.

Buddy and Margaret Allen of Shawnee will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception given by their children and grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to the come-and-go reception Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, where they have been members since 1968.

The Allens were married Jan. 18, 1958, in the First Methodist Church of Caddo.

Buddy taught at Davis and Velma-Alma Public Schools before the couple moved to Shawnee in 1968, where he served as band director until his retirement in 1987. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Bandmasters Hall of Fame in 1978. After his retirement, he started the band program at Pleasant Grove in 1988 and taught there until May 2007.

While raising their three daughters, Margaret was a homemaker and worked as a secretary for several Shawnee businesses. She also was a beautician for 13 years. She worked as secretary for eight years in the math and science department at Oklahoma Baptist University, receiving the Seven Who Care Award in 1995. She joined Buddy at Pleasant Grove School, serving as librarian until her retirement in January 2008.

Their children and spouses include Terri and David Harp; Sheril and Tolly Payne; and Kristi and Allen Heilaman, all of Shawnee. Grandchildren include Samantha and Tyler Ward, Courtney and Hunter Mankin, Taylor Harp, Lauren and Robert Simpson, Maggie Payne and fiancée James Engels, Ryan Carter, Kelsey Carter and great-granddaughters Bentley and Baylor Simpson.
