Greetings! Those greetings come fully packed, mashed down and even added some more, all just to bring you the best of wishes for 2018! Can you believe that it is 2018? Do you recall when fear enveloped a lot of people in my generation, wondering what in the world would happen in leaving the Nineteenth Century?

Greetings! Those greetings come fully packed, mashed down and even added some more, all just to bring you the best of wishes for 2018! Can you believe that it is 2018? Do you recall when fear enveloped a lot of people in my generation, wondering what in the world would happen in leaving the Nineteenth Century?

Well, the Nineteenth Century just evaporated quietly into the eons of time, slipping beneath the calendar pages of yester-year. Now, I don’t know about you, but how many of you recalls how there was a bit of fear, going into the Twentieth Century. We wondered how all the electronic stuff would transfer, smoothly, over into the next century, taking all of the former information with it. But, with amazement, nothing occurred and everything must have switched out perfectly; ‘cause there wasn’t anything that made the news, except a lot of large New Year’s parties!

Have you noticed that as you age, the years get shorter and the end of the year comes around sooner, and sooner; and somehow, the teens roll into the twenties. Well, somehow, I think my years rolled so fast over the horizon, that the senior years, found me fighting for everything from medicare, to silver haired legislators, and better care for the nursing home residents.

It seems everyone from the southern half of Oklahoma called me at some time, to encourage me to have our elected state, county and local officials on my television show that went out over southern part of Oklahoma and into a bit of central north Texas. I have to laugh when I think of how I would get calls requesting me to go to the capitol to be their advocate in getting a special bill passed or have the legislators speak at the Rotary Club, as I was the first female in the southern half of Oklahoma to be member of the all- male club,

The reason I was so involved in numerous activities, was so I would have all the inside scoop which made for good articles for our local weekly newspaper, of which I was the reporter. Then, when I obtained the speaker for the organization, I always made it to coincide with my taping for my television show. As, you can imagine, my telephone was busy, and back during those hectic years, the mobile phones for the vehicles were about the size of a shoe box, maybe a bit shorter.

And, when you got between towns, out in the middle of the country, where there wasn’t any telephone service and if you had vehicle problems, you had to walk several miles to find some assistance.  I recall how it was down in the “boonies,” about fifteen miles away from the main highway, there were three bachelor brothers that were on my sixty-five mile, rural mail route. The only time I saw them would be the first of the month, and I can laugh now, but back then, with no people living close to them, and I would be alone, except when my young daughter would be with me.

These three brothers, had long hair and long beards, would come out to meet me, the first of every month to get their welfare checks. When my five year old daughter would be with me, she would see them coming and fall down in the floor of the back seat, because she was so frightened by their appearance. Well, I tried to calm her, but I can recall how frightened I was the first few times I made the route and they would be standing at the edge of the road, with a shotgun over their shoulders. Of course, I didn’t know at the time, they went hunting for squirrels and birds for breakfast and lunch.

Gee, those are the memories that my daughter wants me to write my life story about. I told her, “Dear, just go back over the forty-two-years of my columns and you will have my life’s story. But, she didn’t like that answer!

Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to a fantastic Twenty-Eighteen. Gosh, I never thought I would be around to be writing those years! How about you? Well, you’ll have a very blessed week and I will see you around and be sending out some more memories next week. Happy New Year to each and every-one, and I pray we all have a very   blessed year!
