SHAWNEE – The Allen Lady Mustangs led wireto- wire, beating Earlsboro 65-34 in the opening round of the Pottawatomie County Invitational Monday evening.

Allen’s hot shooting gave the Lady Mustangs a 15-8 lead after the first quarter. Jaycee Watkins knocked down two triples and Kaylyn Rowsey and Sunzie Harrison each added one.

Harrison started the second quarter on fire, knocking down three straight three-pointers giving Allen a commanding 24-8 lead.

Earlsboro’s best stretch of basketball came late in the quarter as they closed out the half on an 11-2 run, led by Brianna Nadeau’s eight points. Despite the run Earlsboro trailed 33-21 at halftime.

Allen went on a 17-2 run in the third quarter. In that stretch, the Lady Mustangs knocked down four from long distance, extending their lead to 53-21. Earlsboro’s Sierra Smith ended the run with a layup.

In the game, Allen knocked down 16 treys compared to two for Earlsboro.

Earlsboro’s Nadeau led all scorers with 22 points.

Allen was led by Harrison with 18 points. Rowsey chipped in 12 and Watkins added 11. Kinsey Nix was the fourth player in double figured with 10.

Earlsboro will play Macomb Friday at 7 in the consolation bracket.
