SHAWNEE – Macomb was unable to overcome a 17 point deficit at halftime, losing 56-30 to Davenport in the opening round of the Pottawatomie County Invitational Monday evening.

Davenport ended the first quarter on a 11-0 run and took a 19-10 lead into the second quarter. Stevie Orr scored six point in the run.

Right before halftime Macomb coach Matt Riggs received a technical after disagreeing with a call on the floor.

Davenport’s Jordan West missed both free throws and the Bulldogs took a 34-17 lead into halftime.

Macomb’s first basket of the second half came at the 5:20 mark when freshman Darian Rougeux knocked down a three-pointer in the corner, cutting the Davenport lead to 38-20.

The Bulldogs ended the third quarter on a 9-3 run, led by West’ scoring six. Macomb’s Andrew Boydston ended the run with an and-one layup. Boydston connected on the free throw and Macomb trailed 47-27 after three.

West continued with the hot shooting, opening the fourth quarter with a trey.

Macomb’s big men got involved in the fourth, with Boydston and Caleb Browning making backto- back layups, but were unable to cut into the Davenport lead.

With 3:30 left in the game and the Bulldogs up 55-33, Davenport went to their reserves.

Macomb was led by Boydston with 11 points. Rougeux chipped in 10 points.

Davenport’s Jordan West led all scorers with 18 points. Orr and Tres Hamlett each scored 14 points.

Macomb will face the loser of Asher and Allen Friday at 8:30 p.m. Davenport will take on the winner of that game Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
