Shawnee football player DJ Storie is dedicated to his craft on the field, attends Gordon Cooper Technology Center and holds down a part-time job at FireLake Grocery, all while finishing his senior year.
For those reasons, he is one of the two students selected as The Shawnee News-Star and Patriot Auto Group Students of the Month for December and is now a finalist to win a car.
“This is a great honor. It's a relief in a sense. It proves that all the hard work has paid off on and off the field,” Storie said. “Working a job, football, school and classes at Gordon Cooper is crazy. It's nice to be recognized for all of that.
As part of the football team, Storie was named the team MVP and chosen for the all-district team and honorable mention for all-state.
Along with the success on the field, Storie is attending Gordon Cooper and is focused on becoming an electrician. He works with a local tradesman as an intern during summer months. This allowed Storie to participate in the SkillsUSA program where his team made it to the state level competition and was awarded second place.
In addition to attending Gordon Cooper and Shawnee High School, Storie works on average 28 hours per week at FireLake Grocery.
As a member of Rock Creek Church, Storie has volunteered what time he has left to better his community.
“Right now I have eight different colleges that want me to play football,” Storie said. “I am just going to weigh my options and pick what is right.”
Storie currently maintains a 3.4 GPA.
