CASHION — A 26-9 second-quarter eruption fueled Dale’s girls to a 61-30 flogging of Crescent Thursday in first-round play of the Cashion County Line Tournament.
Dale led 41-19 at halftime on the way to improving its record to 16-1.
Mikayla Rutland topped nine Dale scorers with 15. Rutland hit three shots from 3-point range.
Lindy Nowakowski added 10 points and Jacie McClure notched 8, including two 3-pointers.
Fifteen of Crescent’s 30 points came off five treys.
“I’m proud of the way our bench played,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said. “They had a lot of minutes and they gave very good effort.”
Dale was 9-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Dale will meet the Alva-OCS winner in today’s 4:20 semifinal. Dale possesses a 76-37 win over OCS this season.
With sophomore Jono Johnson scoring all 13 of his points in the second half, Dale held off Cashion 58-50 Thursday at the Cashion Tournament.
Johnson knocked down three 3-point field goals.
Dale (7-10) outscored Cashion 18-9 in the final quarter.
Gabe Gouge topped Dale’s scoring with 14 points, including two treys.
Dallen Forsythe accumulated 9 points and a team-high 8 rebounds for the victors.
Teammate Brady Johnson had a trey among his 9 points.
Dale was 13 of 16 from the charity stripe with Trae Thompson going 5 of 6.
“We played really well,” said Dale coach Jeff Edmonson.
“We were behind at halftime and didn’t quit. I’m very proud of them.”
Dale moves into tonight’s 8:20 semifinals against OCS, a Thursday night winner over Crescent.
