Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Palmer is issuing an alert to area residents after some have received calls pertaining to a jury duty scam.
Palmer said local residents have reporting getting a call from a person trying to convince them that they missed their jury service duty and they must pay $1,000 to avoid a warrant for their arrest, with the caller claiming to be from the sheriff's office.
“It's not us,” Palmer said, adding the sheriff's office won't call for anything or demand money over the phone.
While this is a scam, Palmer said there are phone apps out there that allow people to clone caller IDs to make people believe it is the sheriff's office calling when it's not.
Anyone who has questions about jury service can always call the court clerk's office, but anyone who has received such a call or needs to visit with deputies can call 405-275-2526 or 405-273-1727.
