He was preceded in death by his mother, Nadine Abel, and his father, Adrian Edwin Abel.

He is survived by three daughters and spouse, Shaina Abel of Decature, Texas; Teasa and Guillermo Ramirez of Lewisville, Texas; Cammie Abel of Lewisville, Texas; his sister Coletta and James McKey of Weatherford; his brother Adrian Edwin Abel Jr. and Linda of Shawnee; and his brother Charles and Carol Abel of Pearland, Texas. He had five grandchildren and spouse, C.J. and Ally Christman, Cameron Christman, Brittany Vevea, Maddyson Ramirez, and Izek Ramirez; one great-grandson, Jace Christman; several nieces and nephews and the son he never had John Abel.

He served in the U.S. Navy where he was an air traffic controller on board the U.S.S. America during the Vietnam War. His service to the U.S. Navy lasted four years: Jan. 16, 1970, to Jan. 2, 1974. During his time in the service he received several medals. The most mentionable was the Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal. He received two medals for the Vietnam Service, National Defense service medal and the Republic of Vietnam campaign medal.

Graveside services will be held Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. at Little Cemetery, 11522 OK-99, Seminole, with Rev. Mark Wright officiating.
