Voters in Lincoln County on Tuesday overwhelming passed a county sales tax issue, which renews the county's one-cent sales tax for another five years.

Voters in Lincoln County on Tuesday overwhelming passed a county sales tax issue, which renews the county's one-cent sales tax for another five years.

For the proposition, 1,428 — or 83.36 percent — voted in favor of passage, while 285,or 16.64 percent, voted no.

The proposition asked if the county should levy a 1 percent countywide sales tax beginning Jan. 1, 2019, with it being limited to a five-year duration, with funds allocated as follows:

• 60 percent to county road and bridge improvements

• 13 percent to the Lincoln County jail

• 6 percent to the Lincoln County Extension center, capped at $120,000

• 7 percent to the Senior Citizen Nutrition Sites

• 8.5 percent to Lincoln County Fire Departments

• 2 percent to the Lincoln County Free Fair

• 2 percent to Economic Development

• 1.5 percent to Emergency Management and Lincoln County Safety Office

Any money collected over capped amounts will go to the Lincoln County courthouse improvement fund.
