The McLoud, Harrah, Choctaw (MHC) Theatre will host its third annual summer production this year when they perform “The Wedding Singer.”

“We were looking for something that was upbeat and could get the crowd involved,” MHC Theater Director Jakob Mullendore said. “We checked out the musical and loved it. We chose that show and the reaction has been positive.”

The group, led by Director and McLoud senior Jakob Mullendore will host auditions March 23 and is hoping to fill a cast of 23 performers.

Tryouts will be held at Harrah Middle School Auditorium from 5-7 p.m.

After two successful seasons, Mullendore and the MHC Theatre are better prepared for the rigors of performance season.

“Planning ahead is the most important,” Mullendore said. “I always wait to get my stuff together but this time around is different. “Having a plan only makes things run smoother and interacting with the community more often helps get the word out about the show.”

With the MHC Theatre performing “Wedding Singer,” the group hopes to put on a fan-friendly show, Mullendore said.

All of the cameos from the “Wedding Singer” will be featured in the show, including Ronald Reagan, Cindy Lauper, Tina Tuner, Billy Idol, Mr. T., among others.

This is the first time in the three seasons MHC Theatre will feature a live band during the performance.

A change in venue to the Harrah Middle School will allow for bigger crowds and a larger stage, Mullendore said.

Tryouts are not limited to the McLoud, Harrah, Choctaw area the MHC Theatre wants to invite high school students from all area schools to participate.

In 2016, Jakob Mullendore, a junior at McLoud High School, and a group of theater students from McLoud, Harrah and Choctaw performed “Into the Woods” at the State Theatre in Harrah.
