Area residents can sign up for a Citizen Academy.
The focus of the curriculum is to provide an informative overview of the operations of the city of Shawnee and the surrounding communities.
It is also designed to strengthen the partnership between citizens, businesses and their state and local government. The academy is open to the public.
The schedule is as follows:
March 15: Local Government Structure and How City and State Governments operate. 6:30 p.m. - Mayor Richard Finley and 7:30 p.m., State Sen. Ron Sharp.
March 17: Parks and Recreation and Non-Profit groups available to Shawnee citizens. 1 p.m. — Parks and Recreative with Jame Bryce; 2 p.m., Non-profits groups.
March 22: Economic Development and communication with city of Shawnee. 6:30 p.m. Economics with Tim Burg; Technology with Stephen Nolen at 7:30 p.m.
March 24: First responders. 1 to 3 p.m. — Police, fire and REACT EMS.
