Charles L. Henthorn, 79, of Macomb, passed away Monday, Feb. 26, 2018, in Midwest City.

He was born April 25, 1938, to Fredrick Miles and Shirley Joann (Ward) Henthorn in Oklahoma City.

Charles was raised in Oklahoma City and graduated with the class of 1956 from Putnam City High School.

He married Tommie Sue Brackett on July 3, 1964, in Oklahoma City.

Charles proudly served his country for four years in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. After returning from the U.S. Army, he lived in Oklahoma City until settling in Macomb in 1978, where he has since lived.

Charles worked as a framing contractor in Oklahoma City, as a salesman for Consolidated Wholesale where he won multiple awards for top salesman, and for Indian Nations Wholesale, Inc. in Durant before retiring in 2003.

Charles was a hardworking man who burned the candle at both ends. He enjoyed roping, stock car racing, horse racing, raising horses, pheasant hunting and fishing. His greatest love was “checking the cows,” which also meant he went driving around checking on friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Priscilla Henthorn; and sister, Delois June Jackson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Tommie Sue Henthorn of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles and Elizabeth Henthorn of Sayre, and Tony Henthorn of Macomb; four grandchildren, Blake Henthorn, Sam Henthorn, Jill Henthorn and Ezra Henthorn; brother, Dale Henthorn and wife Joy of Jones; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, and continue through service time. Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 28, at Cooper Funeral Home.

Service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, March 1, at Macomb Baptist Church with Chaplain Darrell Witten, Heartland Hospice of Shawnee, and Reverend Billy Benson officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Macomb under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
