A Shawnee man was killed early Tuesday morning at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on SH 102 in Pottawatomie County. Cause of that accident remains under investigation.

A Shawnee man was killed early Tuesday morning at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident on SH 102 in Pottawatomie County. Cause of that accident remains under investigation.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the accident occurred about 5:32 a.m. just north of SH 9 in the Bethel Acres area.

Justin Lee Gaines, 47, Shawnee, was a listed as a pedestrian in this accident and was pronounced dead at the scene by REACT EMS personnel, the OHP reported.

He was transported to the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner's Office in Oklahoma City.

An unoccupied 2014 Toyota, along with four other vehicles, were listed as being involved in the accident.

A state trooper indicated there was someone with car trouble in that area, although the OHP teletype does not show yet what happened and cause of the accident is still pending further investigation.

The accident shut down SH 102 in that area until about noon.

The OHP reports lists the other vehicles and drivers involved at the accident scene: a 2016 Ford Edge driven by Tom E. Prahm, 37, Macomb; a 1999 Ford F-150 driven by Steven Wood, 55, Tecumseh; a 2006 Kia driven by Robert Woodward, 24, Tecumseh; and a 2009 Honda motorcycle operated by Jacob Owens, 41, Tecumseh.

All were listed as having no injuries.

The patrol reports seat belts were equipped and in use in the vehicles and a helmet also was in use by the operator of the motorcycle.

Trooper Troy Thompson #771 of the Pottawatomie and Lincoln County Detachment of Troop A investigated the scene, with assistance by Trooper William Arnett #216 of the Pottawatomie and Lincoln County Detachment of Troop A, Trooper Jason Richardson #367 of Troop S, Lt. Brian Orr #93 of Troop RL, as well as Trooper James Lowe #507 and Trooper Eric Blades of the Troop A Fatality Investigation Team. 

Troopers also were assisted at the scene by the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Department, Shawnee Police Department, Sac and Fox Tribal Police, REACT, Bethel Acres Fire Department and Pink Fire Department.
