Justin Lee Gaines, 47, of Shawnee, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, near Bethel Acres.
Services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at Liberty Baptist Church with Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
Justin was born July 19, 1970, in Paris, Illinois, and adopted by Jack and Miriam Gaines, and recently reconnected with his birth mother, Linda Fann. He was a 1989 graduate of Prague High School.
On April 19, 1992, he married Loretta Haley.
He enjoyed landscaping jobs, ride-sharing, and also worked as a prison guard. Justin was previously vice president of Neighborhood Watch, delivered newspapers and mowed lawns for anyone he could. He loved fishing and animals. He was extremely kind and helpful. He met his wife Loretta in October 1991 when Loretta, her brother, and grandmother had car trouble on the corner of Federal and Harrison. He continued loving and taking care of her for 26 years. Last year he was able to find his birth mother and reconnect with her and his sister. His daughter, Daidra was his best achievement and his close friend. He was always willing to help her with anything.
He was preceded in death by his father: Jack Lee Gaines; son: Gabriel Lee Gaines, brothers: Steven Mattix and Jon Mark Gaines, grandmother-in-law: Inez Thomason, good friend: James Jones and several furry friends.
Justin is survived by his wife of 26 years: Loretta Gaines of Shawnee; daughter: Daidra Hendershot and her husband Nicolas of Shawnee; mothers: Miriam Gaines of Shawnee and Linda Fann of Illinois; sister: Katrina Fulling and her husband Aaron, and their two children, Alex and Dannika; sister: Roseann Butler and her husband Roger Ferlett; niece: Autum Simms, and her son Steven Sims; nephew: Matthew Lake and his children Dalton and Victoria; nephew: Joshua Gaines; niece: Elaine Gaines and her two children Sara and Noah; nephew: Graham Gaines and his daughter Mackenzie; mother-in-law: Ellen Hutchinson; brother-in-law: Chris Hutchinson and his wife Rachel Ross, and their two children Cameron and Alyssa; and countless cousins and friends.
