During its 44th annual event Tuesday, Shawnee Public Schools District officials honored eight of their teachers — showcasing the work of an educator from each of the schools in the district.

SPS celebrated it finalists and announced its 2018 Teacher of the Year recipient. Following in the footsteps of last year's winner, Library Media Specialist Cherity Pennington, another SMS educator has been awarded with the school district's highest honor Mrs. Jayme Hutchcraft.

According to a bio on the SPS website, Teaching seventh-grade literature and English, Hutchcraft is in her sixth year of teaching, having spent all six years with Shawnee. She received her Bachelors degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and her Masters from East Central University.

She is married to Andrew Hutchcraft and they have two sons, 4-year-old Carson and 1-year-old Clete, as well as a Boxer named Reba.

In her free time she enjoys watching and attending sporting events as well as all of her children's activities, the site states.

She will represent the Shawnee School District at the state level when each district winner vies for the 2019 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. Each year the state winner is announced in a ceremony in September at the state fairgrounds in Oklahoma City.
